Our Journey into RVing and Workamping: Navigating Life's Twists and Turns
April 18, 2022, marked a pivotal moment in our lives. Jay, already a disabled veteran from the Army, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. With 33 years of marriage under our belts, my wife Susie and I grappled with the emotions of what this diagnosis meant for our future. Jay, unable to continue his work in Arboriculture, sought out other jobs that could accommodate his limitations while Susie continued with her previous employment.
Despite our efforts, Jay couldn't find fulfillment in these roles. In January of 2023, we made a bold decision: to sell our house and belongings, and hit the road in our Class C motorhome to travel the USA and workamp. By July of 2023, our house was sold, and in August, we embarked on our journey, filled with uncertainty despite our extensive research.
As we traversed the country, we encountered both highs and lows. However, it soon became apparent that our Class C motorhome was too small to meet our needs. After our second workamping gig, we made the decision to upgrade to a 2013 Montana 5th wheel camper and purchased a 2014 F350 to tow it.
The transition to our new camper brought a renewed sense of freedom and possibility. With more space and amenities, we felt more at home on the road, allowing us to fully embrace the nomadic lifestyle we had chosen. We found ourselves drawn to remote campsites, where we could immerse ourselves in nature and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Despite the challenges we've faced along the way, our journey has been filled with moments of profound joy and connection. From breathtaking sunsets to impromptu gatherings with fellow travelers, we've discovered that the road has a way of bringing people together and forging lifelong friendships. As we continue to explore the vast and diverse landscapes of this country, we're grateful for the opportunity to share our adventures with you and inspire others to embrace the freedom of life on the open road. Stay tuned for more stories from our journey as we navigate the twists and turns of RVing and workamping.
